[Migration News Flash] Australia Increases Visa Application Fees and Updates English Test Options!

Starting from July 2025, the application fees for both the Student Visa (Subclass 500) and the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) have increased, while minimum income thresholds for skilled and employer-sponsored migration categories have also been raised.

Updated Visa Application Fees (as of November 2025)

  • Student Visa (Subclass 500): Main applicant fee increased from AUD 1,600 to AUD 2,000 (from 1 July 2025). (Dependent application fees vary according to age and number of applicants.)
  • Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485): Main applicant fee raised to AUD 2,300 (effective 1 July 2025). (Dependent application fees vary according to age and number of applicants.)

In addition to these fee adjustments, from August 2025 the Department of Home Affairs has announced an expansion of the accepted English language test options for visa applications. Three new tests — LanguageCert Academic, CELPIP General, and the Michigan English Test (MET) — have officially been added to the list of approved exams for visa English-language evidence.

This means that Australia now recognizes nine English tests from eight organizations, providing international students and graduates with greater flexibility and more application pathways.
